ZAKIA is an artist and designer inspired by her love and respect for our amazing planet Earth and all of its' beautiful creatures. Fascinated by the never-ending universe, her work is fueled by her passion for travel and nature. Experienced and educated in 2 and 3 dimensional work, she is currently focusing her artistic energy on textile and surface design with an eye on licensing. Combining hand painted techniques, illustration and photoshop she creates gorgeous collections for fabric, bedding, home decor, stationery and more.
Zakia's colorful designs are free-spirited and flow with vibrancy and life - Imagine butterflies flying out of her artwork, or a frog jumping from her upcycled furniture. Make a wish on a hand painted star... it just might come true! Designs are filled with messages of peace, love and light...and all of her work is infused with an abundance of gratitude and positive thoughts.
Professional background includes painting, illustration, design, photoshop, color matching, trend forecasting, display, set design and decorating. She believes in giving back to the community and donates time, talent & product to charity. Zakia earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), with a major in sculpture in New York City. She has also studied at Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), School of Visual Arts and Parsons. Aware of sustainability she believes in reusing, repainting, and reloving old "used" furniture. Rather than "buy new" she encourages her clients to let her reinvent their current furniture.
Travels to Asia, Europe, Africa, South America, Central America and the Caribbean are a constant source of artistic enlightenment and inspiration for Zakia. Her life experiences are reflected in her lovely one of a kind creations. This talented and world-conscience artist currently lives in the tri-state area, surrounded by a menagerie of animals, her children in one hand, paintbrush in the other, and passport nearby ready to fly...
